Advocacy

The social work profession was founded in social change. Throughout the profession’s history, social workers have sought to ensure that all people have equal access to the resources and opportunities that allow them to meet their basic needs. NASW-NV upholds this challenge by advocating for the association to members of Congress, regulatory agencies and state general assemblies that so often hold the authority to influence policy.

NASW-NV has developed a policy agenda, which asserts the association’s advocacy priorities for the legislative cycle. NASW-NV’s policy agenda is consistent with the NASW policies in Social Work Speaks, which is developed by members of the association at Delegate Assembly.

NASW and our members must follow the path of past leaders such as Whitney Young by exerting our national leadership to maximize voter participation through mobilization, voter engagement, and voter registration efforts. NASW has been working in collaboration and partnership with national voter mobilization organizations such as:

  • A collaboration between NASW and Voting is Social Work called Social Work Votes!
  • Rock the Vote Voto Latino
  • Non-Profit Vote
  • National Voter Registration Day (09/17/2024)
  • The National Voting Rights Taskforce
  • The Census Taskforce
