I am excited about the second half of the 2019 “As One Nevada” Social Work Conference, which will continue our efforts in Reno to offer the opportunity for collaboration, education, and heightened awareness of the many challenges facing our communities.
Moreover, I am encouraged by the knowledge, strength and courage of our social workers across the state to unite “As One Nevada,” to embrace who we are and to move beyond them. This year’s Social Work Month Theme, “Elevate Social Work,” empowered us to become involved in overcoming these hurdles, through our efforts in advocacy, legislation, workforce development and more.
During the “As One Nevada” Social Work Conference in Reno (May 22nd and 23rd), Kathryn Conley Wehrmann, PhD, MSW, LCSW, our NASW Board President, delivered a powerful message to our colleagues addressing the roles of women in social work. She also referenced the exemplary service of our Social Wok Pioneers, provided highlights of products and services to look forward to from our NASW organization and promoted support and growth in membership. Special thanks to Dr. Wehrmann and all of the Reno Conference presenters for their contributions. This calls for us to assume responsibility and become more involved as we identify and examine the issues. It’s imperative that we stand together, then we must be proactive, as we strive to fulfill our mission .
Commendations and congratulations to our NASW Nevada Chapter Director, Kyle Hillman. We have experienced his outstanding leadership and vision during the past year. The planning and preparation for “As One Nevada” is just the beginning as we transition into a new year. Kyle, along with Danielle Flores Member Services, and our Board are dedicated to helping us to continue to move forward. Special thanks to everyone who participated in the Conference in Reno and the great work you continue to do.
The “As One Nevada” Social Work Conference in Las Vegas is scheduled for October 21st and 22nd and promises to deliver more information and valuable tools to help us in our everyday lives and work. Please see your email or the NASW NV website for registration and details. May the knowledge gained from the lessons planned empower us to equip, enrich and rededicate ourselves to our social work profession. A reminder to our members, to please vote in our NASW Nevada Chapter Election.
Many thanks to all of you for your continued membership and support.
Jacqueline C. Jones, MSW, LSW
