From the Pen of the Chapter Director:

Kyle Hillman, NASW-NV Chapter Director

As we end social work month, we are reminded that in times of crisis, social workers are there. At NASW we are working hard to support your work and to advocate for social workers in Nevada.

We will continue to move education and networking opportunities online to support your continued growth (including the 2020 social work conference). We will also continue to advocate for your needs with the Governor's office, the insurance industry and (via our national office) Congress so that you can focus on being the professionals who were trained for just this time.

We have some exciting news regarding where the Nevada Chapter is headed, which we will be announcing soon, until then consider running for a volunteer position on the Board of Directors. This is your opportunity to help shape the educational and advocacy goals of your association, you can find the form below.

With all that is going on in the world, we especially need to celebrate the work you do. With that in mind, the chapter is restoring our annual social work award process and has now opened it up for nominations. Do you know someone in your field who represents the best of the social work profession in Nevada? Take a few minutes to nominate them by clicking the link in the awards section below.

As always, thank you for being a member of NASW-Nevada.

Kyle Hillman

Director, NASW-Nevada Chapter

COVID-19 Update:

Social workers, like many health and behavioral health professionals, are concerned about the impact of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on their well-being, the people to whom they provide services, their families, and others in the community.

NASW has been working on multiple fronts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and ensure access to services, such as teletherapy. Social workers are in a unique position to promote disease prevention efforts (including disseminating accurate information from trusted sources), and to help address anxiety and other concerns that are arising as a result of this public health crisis.

Click here for resources to support social workers in this role. As the situation continues to rapidly evolve, NASW will continue to monitor developments and work to protect social workers and the clients we serve.
